  • Overview

Native English speakers will be better suited to our English Functional Skills courses at Entry Level 3 and Levels 1 and 2.

The Certificate is a flexible qualification and is made up of three separate Awards in each of the three language skills: Reading, Speaking and Listening, and Writing.

Each Award is taught and assessed over 10 weeks, and learners can achieve an Award for each skill at the appropriate level of their development – for example, Entry Level 2 for Reading and Speaking and Listening, plus Entry Level 1 for Writing.

Course starts on Tuesday 10th January 2023 to Tuesday 21st March 2023 or Wednesday 4th January 2023 to Wednesday 29th March 2023. Please phone us on 01772 642040 for more details.

Each Award lasts for 10 weeks, on Tuesdays 5.30pm until 8.30pm OR Wednesday 12.30 – 3.30pm.

  • Entry Requirements

There are no examinations, as each Award is assessed by a portfolio of tasks completed throughout the course. There are three assessment tasks for each Award, totalling nine for the Certificate. To achieve the Certificate seven of the assessments need to be at the same Level (eg: Entry Level 2).

  • Progression Pathway

Completion of the Awards and Certificate offers a range of progression opportunities in employment and apprenticeships. You will also have the literacy qualification needed to pursue other vocational courses as well as to take English to the next level – English Functional Skills and GCSE.
