    What will I learn?

    Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the core areas of Digital and an introduction to the skills required in the Digital sector

    Topics include:

    • Digital Skills Career Progression
      • This topic provides learners with an understanding of the importance of digital skills in the workplace and how changes in employment have led to an increase in demand across several sectors. Learners will learn about the different types of job roles where digital skills are required, and the characteristics valued by employers to establish a successful career in today’s digital economy. Learners will also identify their own career/progression goals and plan how they will develop their digital skills to meet their intended goals.
    • Exploring New and Emerging technologies
      • Learners will explore new and emerging technologies and how they have influenced business operations and are used to meet business needs.
    • Cyber Security
      • Learners will investigate the accidental and malicious security threats that exist to IT systems and data. They will learn about system vulnerabilities and the tools and techniques used to protect users from risks and potential damage, including loss of data, loss of data integrity and unauthorised access to data.
    • Programming
      • In this topic learners will learn about the principles of computer programming to understand how programming works. They will develop text-based programming skills to design and develop their own computer program.
    • Digital Skills Project –
      • In this Topic learners will develop the knowledge and skills to plan, develop and review a digital skills project, topic with be a choice of programming or Cybersecurity

    This course will be delivered face to face on campus.

    Times: Tuesday evenings, 5.30-8.30pm. Course starts on Tuesday 10th January 2023 and runs for 20 weeks, ending on Tuesday 27th June 2023.

  • Entry Requirements

    Prior skills/knowledge/understanding Learners are expected to have some prior knowledge and experience of digital and IT skills, for example as exemplified in the National standards for Essential Digital Skills. Before you enrol, we will make sure you are enrolled to the right level of course for you through a short Skills Check and Information appointment.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The course will be assessed via 100% portfolio evidence generated over the duration of the course.

  • Progression Pathway

    At the end of the course, successful learners will be awarded a formal certificate. Learners can progress onto a higher-level course or employment where they can apply their digital and IT knowledge.
